Diabetes Screening

Thanks for the opinions about diabetes screening. I might ad that our testing is not done in a fasting state, and serum result set at 140. I like the Jelly Bean idea, but we've stuck with the 50 G glucola. Follow an elevated value with a GTT, which most of the time is normal....

>>One thought, though, is whether your "positive" value is set too low, so
that you pick up too many normals. What 50-gram one-hour cutoff do most of the members of the list use? 130, 135, 140, other?>>

We also need to remember, this is a screening test just like the pap smear is a screening test. We don't diagnose cancer from a pap smear and we don't diagnose diabetes from the screening test.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
