Re: water birthFrom: MS GAIL M HART (YTDP43A@prodigy.com)Wed Aug 21 01:26:10 1996
-- [ From: Gail Hart * EMC.Ver #2.10P ] -- RE R Daniel Braun<<<Require HIV testing before you get in the Tank.<<< Even though I think it's doubtful that HIV could be spread through blood in water.. I know none of would care to take the chance to find out.... But water labor or water birth doesn't require the caregiver's presence in the water (those old hippie videos not withstanding). I don't know of anyone who climbs into the tank! most water births are pretty hands off affairs -- the mom is generally helped out if a problem develops -- and long sleaved gloves are available if she stays in the water.. With a little care one can do water births, and still stay dry!! Gail Hart, LDEM Oregon, US PS -- Does a negative HIV test offer us a great deal of protection anyway?

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
