Diabetes screeningFrom: CNMPAT@aol.comTue Aug 20 19:55:01 1996
Is anyone using HG A1c for screening for diabetes instead of the usual one hour (50G) glucola and 100G GTT if the glucola is elevated. I can't tell you the number of women with elevated glucola's that come back from a GTT with hypoglycemic or very normal values. Couldn't you just draw a HGA1c on women at risk, or even everyone. If that's within the normal range, then you could be fairly reassured that the woman is not diabetic. Has this been researched. Can anyone explain to me why something like this hasn't been proposed? It would seem to me that if you did this around 28 weeks on everyone, you'd have a pretty good idea about doing further testing. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
