RE Philip Suarez<<< Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't human beings
land animals??
>Isn't there a point that the child absolutely MUST crawl upon the Oh, I know you are just joking around... but.... as strange as the concept sounds -- I think water birth is more than just a fad and has proven that it offers moms side-effect free pain relief , the advantages of comfortable physiologic positioning for birth, and relaxation; The baby seems to benefit from all this as well... Babies DO need to take that "initial, shocking breath" rather quickly -- and are brought into air right away. It took a long time to convince me to agree to do a waterbirth for a client. The published stats of various sites finally convinced me of its safety.... I've done many now and am VERY impressed with how pleased the mothers (and the babies) are with it! You might look up a report by Michael Rosenthal in "THE FEMALEPATIENT/vol.16/August 1991. <pg40>Warm-Water Immersion in Labor and Birth"....This article also includes the statistics for apprroximately 1400 women who labored in the water, and 679 births occuring in the tub. and Water Birth: One Birthing Center's Observations by Linda Church in Journal Of Nurse-Midwifery Vol.34, No $. July/August 1989). GAIL HART... LDEM.... OREGON

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
