Just to be pragmatic: [1] How are you going to manage universal precautions - is the accoucheur going to kneel at the side of the tub with sholder length gloves - is s/he going to enter the tub in a (G-d willing) waterproof hazmat suit? [2] How will you handle a sholder dystocia in the tub? [3] How will you accurately assess the infant before birth ... most folks do not still have pinards of Leff-Sklar fetoscopes and the water proof dopplers are really difficult to sterilize/sanitize before the next woman. [4] If (when) the infant aspirates the non-sterile, chemically laden water what effects will you need to treat for? I beleive that water is the impoverished provider's epidural...but let's get them out of the tub when it is time to push. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education.
