Uterine ruptureFrom: CheriCNM@aol.comSun Aug 4 16:10:48 1996
I have recently become aware of two cases of uterine rupture during attempted vaginal birth after previous cesarean in which the site of rupture was *not* along the previous scar. In both cases, the rupture was discovered in the posterior aspect of the uterus upon cesarean section for fetal distress. I was not present at either of these cases, but hearing about them raised certain questions in my mind. 1. Have others heard of or participated in similar cases? What were the circumstances? 2. Would this appear to be coincidental or directly related to the previous section and/or uterine scar? If they are related, what would the mechanism be which caused the rupture? Thanks in advance for your insights, wisdom, and experience. This list is a valuable tool for the exchange of information. Cheri Van Hoover, CNM Kaiser Hospital Redwood City, California

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
