Supracervical HysterectomyFrom: Gordon M. Goldman (goldmang@medicine.wustl.edu)Mon Oct 30 19:47:13 1995
Mats, I just attended a two-day seminar featuring o.Professor Kurt Semm from Kiel, Germany. Of course, the topic was the CISH procedure. Was a very interesting meeting, but am a little unsure of the reasoning and still feel the data are very subjective. His contention that extrafacial removal of the "healthy" cervix compromises pelvic support, innervation and blood supply certainly makes sense, but then he says he does not want to remove any "healthy" tissues. Then why worry about the coring of the cervix in the first place, if there has been no history of pathology in the past? Why not just do a supracervical and let it go at that?? Under that line of reasoning, we should not be removing ovaries from postmenopausal women, either and I believe he advocates that as well. One of the attendees has collected 300 CISH patients and will be presenting them for publication soon. He swears by it. Any thoughts?? Thanks, Gordon

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
