The classical study by British obstetrician Benyon showed that if one left women alone they pushed for about 8 sec vs the usual purple pushing and had their babies at the same time, and presumably less fetal distress but don't remember details but can get them. Small RCT by Maresh et al Br J Obs and Gyn 1983;90:623-7 showed delayed pushing to be associated with small increase in spon vag del compared with pushing at 10 cms.

We are doing an RCT of early vs late pushing in the presence of epidural, PI is Bill Fraser in Laval.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
