> Perhaps the best alternative is to not charge for L&D visits We as physicians may elect not to charge, although there is the tendency to submit a bill if you have to drive to the hospital at 2 AM for an evaluation. However, I'm not sure how to convince the hospital to not charge as they are an independent entity. And it does add up. You might check with your billing department to see whether or not a charge is made for a typical PTL evaluation. Monitoring, UA, +/- IV hydration, nursing time, exam gloves, bedding, etc., etc., ad nauseaum., ad nauseaum. Recently, our hospital even started charging for term labor checks as well. So if a term gravida presents cause she thinks shes in labor, gets observed, rechecked and sent home not in labor, she generates charges!!! What are other hospitals doing in this respect? Mitch

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
