what we urgently need are protocols involving interventions based on fetal fibronectin determinations, a promising marker for REAL preterm labor. otherwise, we are simply groping in the dark. thus far, antibiotics remain the most demonstrably effective tocolytics, aside from ringers lactate and rest. we do seem to be great at treating braxton-hicks contractions. furthermore, the fda should curtail the use of home uterine activity (braxton-hicks) monitors outside the research setting until efficacy has been demonstrated.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
