There are cases of partial mola hydatidosa that resemble blighted ovum on US. These might abort spontaneously without further events too, but this is not the recommended management of mola. A high serum hcg level in relation to the US finding could suggest this diagnosis. Our costs for a serum hcg is around $5. Anyway, we tend to be very active with all non-viable pregnancies, also those in the first trimester without symptoms, from the presumption that the women shouldn't have to be waiting.
