Most seem to abort spontaneously. Since I have made a diagnosis, following serial quantitative beta-HCG's seems like a waste of money (and patient time). If there are no symptoms to suggest, for instance, an ectopic pregnancy, then a beta-HCG will not really help me. I like to give them 2-3 weeks, and, if not aborted by then, repeat the scan. If there is still a sac, then by that time the patient usually wants a D & C. D.
