Re: blighted ovumFrom: dahmd@gate.netMon Oct 23 17:57:51 1995
Regarding blighted ovums: Once I make the diagnosis on ultrasound, I don't do anything else for a few weeks. Most seem to abort spontaneously. Since I have made a diagnosis, following serial quantitative beta-HCG's seems like a waste of money (and patient time). If there are no symptoms to suggest, for instance, an ectopic pregnancy, then a beta-HCG will not really help me. I like to give them 2-3 weeks, and, if not aborted by then, repeat the scan. If there is still a sac, then by that time the patient usually wants a D & C. D. Ashley Hill, M.D. dahmd@gate.net Orlando, FL

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
