In general I do not use tocolytics before 20 weeks. However, I had a patient not too long ago who had a "difficult" 16 week genetic amnio performed by another doctor, who made about 10 attempts to get fluid. The patient showed up in triage with a lot of cramping, no signs of chorioamnionitis, and a normal ultrasound and heart rate, so I gave her Indocin.

I don't know if this was the "right" thing to do, but it sure stopped her cramps!

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
