There is no reason using a whirlpool for labor or delivery should be any more expensive. Cleaning a tub is just as easy as cleaning a shower. People with extensive water birth experience (M.Rosenthal, MD, Upland, CA) contend that whirlpools for labor decrease need for pain medication and epidural, and that certainly decreases cost significantly. In his series of waterbirths, there is no increased risk of complications in either the mothers or babies.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
