I agree completely that there is no getting comfortable with serious shoulder dystocia. It is possible to become more comfortable with the routine manuevers that make moderate dystocia easier to resolve. However serious dystocia is absolutely the most frightening thing that we deal with. One important thing often neglected is to have someone note the time at the beginning of delivery efforts. Also calling for the most senior help available is critical. No one should have to go through it alone.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit.
