I presented a paper at the SPO 2-3 years ago (and have yet to write it up, much to my shame) showing that an elevated MSAFP in an anatomically normal fetus carried with it only a 2-fold increase in IUFD risk - most of which was identifiable based on very poor fetal growth - thus there is no appropriate intervention in the anatomically normal fetus with an elevated MSAFP.

Interesting. The big push around here by our Perinatologist consultants is: Ultrasound every month, NST weekly and AFI weekly, from 28 weeks onwards. Seems like overkill to me, if the mom reports great fetal movement, and the growth is appropriate clinically. I am interested if others are doing this. It would seem to me to create more anxiety in the mom, and maybe something else would come up in the process leading to some unnecessary interventions. What does the group think?? The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
