Re: unindicated UltrasoundsFrom: DoctorJoe@aol.comMon Oct 9 09:14:46 1995
<<...this is getting out of hand. i can't believe how many letters i've seen re: unindicated sonos....>> Actually, we're not talking about 'unindicated' ultrasounds. What we're discussing is U/S which have the sole indication of "patient wants it" or "doctor feels better if he does it once". These indications are not acceptable to many third parties, hence the problem. However, as discussed before, since U/S is in se basically harmless (as far as we can tell), the major 'risk' of U/S is wallet anemia, not medical hazard. So the discussion centers around trying to justify an U/S without a 'standard' medical indication, just because the patient wants it or the doctor likes to do one on everybody once, just to rule things out. doctorjoe@aol.com "All things are connected. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
