Vag. Pool Amniotic Fluid?

Greetings:

I'm in the process of editing a paper on PROM, and would appreciate your help

I've reviewed the literature in MEDLINE on the sensitivity/specificity of VAGINAL POOL specimens for determining fetal maturity. I understand that certain contminating flora can produce substances indistinguishable from PG or affect the L/S ratio. I cannot find a consensus on whether or not the vaginal pool specimen is in fact considered to be suitable for determination of fetal lung maturity in Premature Rupture of Membranes.

Any comments or references would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

<<Mike>>

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
