racial differences

Guy Harbert of the University of Virginia gave the Inaugeral M. Carlyle Crenshaw Jr Lecture in Maternal-Fetal Medicine this last Saturday and I was once again struck by the disparity in risks and outcomes between blacks and whites in this country. A friend posed an intriguing question - is this disparity a function of our poor race relations or is it biologic?

What are the statistics in England, Africa and other places? Do these sites also note a two-fold increase in perinatal mortality, preterm delivery, etc for blacks compared to whites?

Thanks

David

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
