The hypothalamus and Pituitary will establish the serum E2 level to that which they intend. If You leave the back door open, the thermostat keeps the house temperature at that which You've chosen. /tj

I had a patient come in today very emotional, one month after a supracervical hysterectomy. She has multiple psychological issues, but the thought popped into my brain that if the uterus is an end organ, and hormones attach to receptors, once the uterus is gone does that increase the free, circulating estrogen and progesterone levels? If so, can this lead to some psychological changes? Likewise, if the uterus has increased in size secondary to fibroid hypertrophy, will this lead to a decrease in circulating estrogen and progesterone?
