Re: Maternity Leave in ResidencyFrom: Atkinson, Samuel M, Jr (ATKINSONS@ecu.edu)Fri Feb 27 09:45:16 2009
vacation times vary with the program. Ours allows 4 weeks. The ObGyn RRC allows a resident to miss no more than six weeks in an academic year, regardless of cause. Some female residents save vacation from one year to add t the next. The six week max holds. If more is missed, the resident must stay additional time. We have just had a chief resident conceive triplets (IVF of course). One reduced itself and she had considerable time at bed rest with the expected complications. Then had two premies. She stayed an extra month to meet RRC requirements. Notwithstanding this unusual situation, most residents do not take the traditional time off as they return after two to four weeks. We do have hospital facilities for breast feeding and pumping/saving milk. The kickback from male residents is minimal as males are not going in to OB in significant numbers any more. One male chief''s wife had premie twins so he took maternity leave also which forfeited his vacation time. _sAm______________________________________ From: ob-gyn-l@obgyn.net [ob-gyn-l@obgyn.net] On Behalf Of Dr. Ainsworth [ainsron@sbcglobal.net] _sAm______________________________________ Sent: Thursday, February 26, 2009 9:32 PM To: Multiple recipients of list OB-GYN-L Subject: Re: Maternity Leave in Residency I would expect each residency program to have its own policies. He was wondering if there was any standard policy regarding pregnancy in Ob/Gyn residency in terms of time off, etc. I couldn't find anything with ACOG at first glance. Does anyone have any insight? The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
