Re: was 8 babies, now abuse of health care dollarsFrom: Andrew Folley (agfolley@hotmail.com)Wed Jan 28 10:54:14 2009
I am not sure that it is all driven by the legal system. Part of the problem is that as physicians we are ignorant as to the costs of some if not most of the test that we order. Also no one has any financial accountability. Neither the patient nor the doctor pays for the CAT SCAN or for the 8 octoplets that end up in NICU for 9 months. Tort reform is certainly one way that will bring about change and cost savings but so would doctors and patients having to be financially responsible for some of the tests and treatments etc that we order.> Date: Wed, 28 Jan 2009 09:07:03 -0600> From: forcep@intercom.net> To: ob-gyn-l@mail.obgyn.net> Subject: Re: was 8 babies, now abuse of health care dollars> > Relax Danae: Its all driven by our legal system. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
