No doubt, I get them wrong all the time, (by 2 to 400 gm) but what I am
saying is that I am unlikely to say "this baby is average size" when in
fact it is "BIG".

I am amazed that you would be amazed that an experienced obstetrician
could
underestimate the size of a baby. I would guess that if you were to
write
down your extimated fetal weight on your next 50 deliveries that at
least
one of them would be off by more than 500 grams. And it only takes one
to
have someone second guess your decision.
