Re: Please comment- Can stress be related to a placental abruption? From: Raymond Stephen (Stephen.Raymond@dhhs.tas.gov.au)Mon Dec 29 19:41:46 2008
A 35 year old primigravida is at higher risk for many complications of pregnancy, not the least of which would be placental abruption as in this case. Until we know what causes abruptio placentae it would be difficult to speculate about the role of stress. Stress is a nebulous word that describes only the individual's capacity to deal psychologically with the vicissitudes of life. I feel sure that many women especially in the third world have a great deal more reason to be "stressed" than your average American, but the concept is unknown to most of them, and they don't all get hypertensive about it. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
