The other important thing to remember is that as a consultant you are a consultant not only to the other physician without regard to specialty but also consultant to the patient/family. Therefore, your recommendations are made to them as well as in written (+/- oral) form to the primary. Your communication is to both sets of individuals. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education.
