Re: RN privileges

Ef, I have been in Montana for nine years and all during that time, the RN's have refused to perform an amniotomy, place an electrode, place an IUPC or even do a sterile speculum exam to confirm ruptured membranes, stating that it is outside of the scope of practice as delineated by the state board of nursing. We have checked with the board and they have assured us that it is NOT outside the scope of practice. Despite this, the hospital (primarily nursing staff) have continued to refuse. With the appearance of Amnisure, they have been unable to refuse because it simply entails sliding the test strip into the vagina - doesn't mean they didn't try to refuse... Lynn

RN privileges - is it reasonable that they include amniotomy, internal electrode, prostaglandin, fetal fibronectin sample -- follow labor with oxytocin?

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
