This whole issue is evolving: I will give you local history in tertiary 400 bed hospiral , Salisbury, MD. The ER was the first to be staffed by paid ER physicians. Next came the pulmonary critical care physicians who work and care for intensive care. Next in a few years were a surgical group who acted as trauma care team (800K per year). All these changes were over several years. This last year the GI guys(about 11) wanted to be payed ,hospital refused ,so they left. Next came the neurologist(3) who had the hospital in a bind ,since this is a stroke center. They left for 3 weeks, hospital gave in. Next in line were the heart surgeons who generate mucho income . Hospital now pays their nurses, malpractice and other perks but not a salary. So went a hospital hires hospitalists and starts the process ,its a leak in a huge dam. Guess who haven't walked out and work in the most money losing area -? yep , the ob-gyns. And still cover the ER for zilch. Is it an inherent fault from our specialty or what?> Joe C

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
