Sounds like this may have been "Subinvolution of the placental site". In which case treatment with methylergonovine is indicated instead of a D & C. This should always be considered in cases of Delayed PPH. It usually should be suspected if the patient has gone at least one 24 hour period with no lochia. If there has been no such 24 hour period then retained products is more likely. Doing a D&C in a patient with subinvolution is one of the more common causes of Asherman's Syndrome. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
