Unless my memory fails me, this has been discussed ad nauseam here and Cochrane unequivocally states that a one shot intra-operative prophylaxis reduces infection rates, bothe for emergencies (ie C/S) and (supposedly) clean operationes (TAH).

And, if I am not mistaken low income (:-)-O) Antibiotics do as well as expensive ones. Our ICU honcho suggested Augmentin and if that's not available (in the Public Hospital) Ampicillin. Works very well for me.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
