Re: ACOG Antepartum Record - Pain Scale?From: DoctorJoe@aol.comWed Nov 21 10:38:42 2007
In a message dated 11/21/2007 11:25:54 A.M. Central Standard Time, cchamber@embarqmail.com writes: No, I don't think people should suffer needlessly, but the idea that we should be able to treat all pain till absent seems hopeless. Plus, it just contributes to all the oxycontin, methadone, etc addiction that exists. That's true. In the context of chronic pain (with all the Oxycontin, Methadone, etc.), the patient needs treatment enough to enable FUNCTION, not NO PAIN. It's almost impossible to extinguish pain completely (without being unconscious). And we almost all have SOME pain as a part of normal life (esp. us old folks). However, it's hard to get patients to understand it -- they want to be pain free. I guess it's true that "no pain, no gain" is the rule of life. Joe P.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
