Antihyperglycaemics are only indicated for those who have glucose intolerance, and giving her glucophage to raise her insulin even further when she already has hyperinsulinaemia is just anti-intellectual -------------------

My understanding is that glucophage is an insulin sensitizing agent. Less circulating insulin will be needed to maintain euglycemia with glucophage on board. It does not tend to precipitate hypoglycemia by itself. It tends to reduce central obesity.

My question for this 11 year old girl is that - what is her diagnosis? Medical treatment at this point may be jumping the gun.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
