John, your concern is noted! The mother was on triple anti-biotics. Her temp was 101.4F. The baby's heart rate "normalized" with the amnio-infusion and the baby had good Apgars. I would have given the mother an anti-pyretic to bring down the core temperature. My eyebrows were certainly raised when my partner told me about this manuver. Fever is one of the most important, reproducible and usefull clinical signs why would I be stupid enough to try and mask it, if someone in labor gets a fever greater tham 38.5 I start broad spectrum antibiotics . Feal cooling, I am sure the neonatologists will be happy with an infected cool baby.
