Re: El whats' maternal mortatilty in your neck of the woods. From: Dr Eberhard Lisse (el@lisse.NA)Sat Sep 8 19:11:53 2007
John, We have no figures about the Maternal Mortality in Namibia. The UN applies a model that suggests 190 in 100000, however we have about 100000 deliveries in the country per annum and if we had that many, ie more than 3 a week a week, we would have heard about it. In the big State Hospitals its something like 3-6 a year. In Private Practice (O&G and GP) I would guesstimate about 1 maternal death per year countrywide, which will be something like 10 (5-20) per 100000. O&G alone, I have no clue whatsoever, we are only 6 out of 10 doing Obstetrics, and I can not recall a maternal death in the last 5 years. Now that you are asking, what's the rate for your native Canadian population then? I am sure the figure for North of 40 is something you can be really proud of. To compare US figures with developing countries is obscene, by the way, since the annual budget of one or two hospitals in the US together is higher than the national budget in Namibia (which is 600 Million USD, of which 20% goes to healthcare). And it's not the issue how many, but rather that there are too many. In my opinion US society is still racist to the core, never mind how it takes care of the sick, the poor and the old. Or rather doesn't. greetings, el on 9/8/07 9:55 PM Dr. John Provatopoulos B.Sc. M.D.C.M. F.R.S.C. said the following:

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
