One of my patients for whom I delivered all six of her children, complained to her husband that she didn't feel well the day after the birth of her sixth--normal birth. They didn't notify me, but called paramedics who took her to a local (small) hospital. It was determined that she had a small tear in her uterus, however the hospital refused to treat her since she was a Jehovah's Witness and refused blood transfusion. They watched her die in the ER. Six children--what a waste. Don't know if this was reported as a maternal death or not.

Was it reported as a lawsuit?

Oh, OK - so they "watched her die in the ER" - was that like at King-Drew "Medical Center" in LA where they watched a patient die in the ER? Or did they "watch her die" as they attempted resuscitation?

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
