Right. It would be a trade off of what information you can get versus how extensive a "surgery" you need to do.

I guess in a completely stable patient, where the only "problem" was unaccounted for fluid, a culdo with the production of (clear) missing fluid would allow you to continue observation (since a simple, nonbleeding perf is pretty benign).

On the other hand, NO fluid, or gross blood, would certainly justify a laparoscopy.
