Stewart: Perhaps it would be best to know how to spell it. It is Gartner, not Gardner"s, although the Brits spell it Gaertner. Insurance will then be able to find the diagnosis. Many texts do not even mention it so it is hard to look up. To quote from Bonney's Gynaecological SurgeryV. 8, 1975 page 115."...It can be technically impossible to remove vaginally a Wolffian or Gaertner cyst which is presenting in the fornix and lateral vagina but extending into the pelvis or abdomen...it should be opened and allowed to drain into the vagina and if discharge persists and becomes troublesome it is wise to injuec the tract with a dye such as methylene blue ...prior to its extraperitoneal removal by a combined abdominal and vaginal approach." Been there, done that. If you are not accomplished at dissecting the cyst away from ureters, a la cancer surgery, better stay away and refer her to such an individual. sAm

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
