No, there is no additional pay for supervision. Actually, even though the CNMS are not my employees, they have to bill private insurers (other than Medi-Cal) under my provider numbers.

I don't know about our hospital and CNMs - but I know the hospital initially required the Internists / Family Practice docs to do it for all the physician extenders (PAs and ARNPs) - and I think they eventually stopped requiring it - but I wouldn't swear to that.

It might be akin to our Anesthesiologists requiring to always have one MD Anesthesiologist NOT running a case but always "supervising" - it always keeps an extra pair of hands for emergencies and hyperthermia etc - but it allows them to bill for that supervision. Does your practice get paid more - or do the insurers require that the CNMs be always supervised and the signature is how you do that?

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
