Re: casual research questionFrom: Charlie Chambers (ricechaz@earthlink.net)Fri Jun 29 21:44:30 2007
Louana I do obstetrics because I enjoy it. I think your preconceived notions are little offensive though I respect your willingness to own up to them. I enjoy that I get to know my patients over many visits and then it all culminates frequently in a joyful event. In addition, I get to know the father, the great grandma, the sisters, etc. I get the joy of hearing the first heartbeat with them, or disclosing the sex at ultrasound. Basically, I enjoy it more than any other specialty. Unfortunately, occasionally bad outcomes occur, and I find it rewarding to help the patient and family navigate the difficulties of adversity both physically and mentally. Further, I don't find myself limited to accomplish all the above with my Y chromosome. Empathy is gender neutral. Bottom line, I do it for probably some of the same reasons that other ob's get into this specialty, regardless of gender. On Jun 29, 2007, at 6:32 AM, westsidebirthservice@juno.com wrote:

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
