Have any of you heard of "lotus birth" which apparently involves never cutting the cord and just carrying around the placenta with the baby until it drops off by itself? A little much for me, but gaining popularity (along with "freebirthing") in some populations in Washington State.

Well, I guess that brings up a question.

If you take the placenta (after it falls off, or whatever) and eat it (like some of the Oriental populations used to do, or still do up in the mountains), does that violate a vegetarian or Vegan diet plan? I hesitate to ask if it's Kosher or not ...

P.S. We used to see signs up for Placenta Helper when I was in training. Never caught on.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
