Re: malpractice questionnaireFrom: ljmidwife@aim.comWed Jun 27 17:54:17 2007
So the malpractice carrier is implying that you need to obtain cord blood gases on every baby? That means that the cord must be cut ASAP after the birth to obtain the needed cord section. How do they square this with the emerging research which recommends delaying cord cutting for 2 minutes to allow blood in the cord and placenta to be transferred to the baby's circulation to prevent newborn anemia? It would seem they are requiring you to create a situation that could be harmful to the baby. Linda Johnson, CNM http://www.mothersownbirth.com Temperance, MI 1-866-920-8100 "Not to know is bad. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
