The pharmacy has never spoken to me about it, but I have not pursued it either.  I am "informed" by the nurses that Anzamet is what we are using, and I say ok, so I suppose I have tacitly agreed to it.   I'd better check and see if they write it as an order from me or not, but I don't think they have.   I probably could have dissented.  I  guess by not dissenting, I have tacitly agreed to it. I I had better start paying more attention.  Also the whole thing could have changed since I last used it 6 months ago.  No, the pharmacy does no informed consent, they don't even call me, the nurse does.

Interesting phrasing re subbing...they're not the same risk profile. Both are category B for pregnancye, but hasn't much of the use of Anzemet been curtailed secondary to its potential for occasional, but significant, cardiac conduction/rhythm side effects, an effect not seen with zofran? I know anesthesiologists from two intitutions who say their groups use very little, if at all, of the Anzemet secondary to those concerns. Maybe oral vs parenteral Anzemet usage differs in risk.Maybe the folks I reference are being unduly cautious. (Whatever "unduly cautious" means, haha. I won't take offense if anyone wants to call that phrase worthless and undefineable.) Does the pharmacy do an informed consent re risk benefit, side effects potential with prescribing practitioners or patients receiving the substitution?

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
