Factor VFrom: Elrod, Darryl G Maj 48 MDOS/SGOBO (Darryl.elrod@LAKENHEATH.AF.MIL)Tue May 15 06:22:54 2007
25 yo G1 at 11 wks presents for a new OB visit. Her mother had a DVT and was worked up for thrombophilias and was diagnosed with Factor V Leiden. The patient had herself tested several months ago and is a heterozygous carrier of Factor V. She personally has not had any clots and obviously no poor pregnancy outcomes as this is the first. My inclination is to not offer prophylaxis as it is heterozygous mutation and she has no personal history of thromboembolic disorder. Anyone differ? Glen

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
