On a somewhat similar note, check out the story by Henninger on the Walter Reed mess. I watched some of the hearings on CSpan when Gen Weightman was being queried. I did have an immediate intensely visceral reaction to Rep Waxman when he tried to trot out a partisan tangential take on privatization of maintenance efforts which was obviously headed to a political hit on the opposing party/admininstration rather than as something relevant to what had or had not been done for the welfare of the troops. (Checking into why congress sat on the process for four months might have been more useful, as I said in an earlier post.) Henninger's article pretty much backgrounds the situation going on in an effective and enlightening analysis. Re the first suspect to get shot, General Weightman, I have since heard from some friends of career long military sevice echo the same abundantly praiseworthy comments about the General's contributions...as one told me, of course the responsible pols of both parties have to shoot a few dirty birds....its just that they'll shoot a few good ones...otherwise they'd have to fire into their own coop. Glenn, I think of you and your colleagues. I know you're leaving the AF, but wonder what effect this kind of treatment does to the perspectives of any of your friends who might be contemplating a career for the longterm. The daughter of a dear friend of mine is in the Air Force. It would be nice to know she could continue to count on folks such as you and your fellow docs. It can't be a good message that any of you are receiving though, and that's not good for her or the nation. Reminds me of some highly talented civilian and military engineers who gave up on careers in the Army Corps of Engineers - another favorite whipping boy for politicians who love to order their pork projects and then criticize the Corps for poor choices. They were either shot as sacrificial lambs, or headed out to saner, highter paying private sector jobs. --------------------------------- Expecting? The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
