Odds and ends on life re: professional satisfaction

My partner and I, both in practice 15 to 20 years, were sitting around complaining about life in general--all the stuff we all know.

He said, "You know, the best satisfaction I get many days is seeing people back for annuals whom I've known for years, delivered their children, etc." Ditto for me--the patients and relationships are very sustaining in terms of keeping me going.

On another note, a long standing patient called last week regarding breast augmentation. She is a 40 YO P4004 and had augmentation years ago, after her first child, and then remarried and had 3 more children around 10 years later. She needs revision, and has seen a local, well-regarded plastic surgeon who has advised silicone (she has saline). She called me because of trust/"you have known me for 15 years and have an interest in my health" and I was very touched by her asking me something that I really had to defer to the surgeon, only opining that silicone tends to look and feel better from what I've seen. However, the real point here is that I said to her "Mrs. Siegel must have raised a fool. I should have a waiting list of months for people paying cash up front, as opposed to delivering babies at 3 AM for a $10 co-pay." She laughed!

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
