Re: Bilateral dermoidsFrom: Elrod, Darryl G Maj 48 MDOS/SGOBO (Darryl.elrod@LAKENHEATH.AF.MIL)Wed Mar 7 13:05:04 2007
Good. I think I did what the majority would have done. I shelled the cysts out...not too gracefully mind you, but they came out none the less. I really did have a suspicion that they were dermoids based on the yellowish fluid I could feel within them. One of the ovaries had a section that as has been mentioned here before, looked 'angry'. I just couldn't leave it in place and hope it resolved. I went to try and take a sample for path and got in to the cyst and realized then that my suspicion was correct. There was a large amount of sebaceous material and hair and the Rokitansky's nodule or a similar nodule of hard tissue. The nurses, techs and anesthesia were in awe, and I just felt under the gun as I knew her spinal was ticking away quickly. In a brief medline and google search I couldn't find anything written on the management of bilateral dermoids found incidentally at the time of c-section. Thanks for the input. Glen Footnote-I wrapped both ovaries in intercede after irrigating copiously, just in case. //SIGNED// D.
