Vaginitis testing

Is anyone using the Affirm VPII (or something similar) for testing of vaginitis - candida, trich and gardernella? I am being pestered by a Quest representative to try it and several colleagues are using it. The data on it look good, but at $260 per test, what is wrong with continuing to use wet mounts and KOH smears? Is the improvement in sensitivity with the extra cost to an overburdened healthcare system? With a zero-sum increase health care budget, the increased dollars for testing will come from someone's pocket, usually mine when medicare and other carriers ratchet down or reimbursement to pay more for testing and pharmaceuticals. Or am I simply being naive and missing something here??

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
