If you do the bleeding time workup and it comes back neg- you may want to try one of the old midwife tricks. (don't shoot me for mentioning it-please) If she is still bleeding heavy on OC or the parents do not want to put her on them (they are reluctant around here at times) you can have her take 2 alfalfa tabs q day for a few days before her expected period and while she is bleeding. They are very high in vit K. Around here you can buy a huge bottle of them for 3.50 at Walmart and it will last her for a LONG time. The label says up to 6 tabs per day, but that many usually gives them diarrhea. If they are prone to constipation, some of our patients take 2 every day. The OB I work with takes them himself. He says it helps keep him regular and for energy. It is a fast way to get hgb up fast if they are anemic too. If she can't swallow the pills, they can crush them and take them in a couple of teaspoons of chocolate pudding- it masks the 'green flavor'.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
