I agree with Joe and anticipate a steadily rising C-section rate in the USA over the next seveal years topping 50% soon (withiin 5 years). Numerous reasons in play. Primarily "zero tolerance" for bad outcome of baby. This will lead to more sections in labor for any question of non reassuring fetal tracing and sections for any and all non progressions in first and second stage. This will set us up for more repeat sections. VBAC soon to be an anachronism. Lack of training of residients will help to drive the above. Throw in the fact that women do not really embrace the idea of long drawn out painful child birth and we will see more primary sections being done. It is not nconcevealbe to see a complete reverse in numbers with sections being 70% and vaginal births at 30%. andrew

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
