Louana....

It would be nice, but the only people that would benefit from such a motion would be the very small home birthing aggregate. At this point, it would appear that ACOG does not feel it merits their time or attention.

What surprises me is the extent of power the carriers have been given, to dictate what MDs can and cannot be involved in (or risk losing coverage). Whatever happened to the best interest of the patient and their ability to make an informed choice and obtain qualified back up? I have a feeling if this were occurring in another of women's health, abortion, for example.... that many would not be so lax about pushing the insurance carriers back within their boundaries. It is rather ironic....

It does seem that ACOG would prefer that this aggregate get over their ideals about birth and head to the hospital. Restricting their ability to be responsible and obtain back up may deter some, but not all.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
