Re: Recurrent rectoceleFrom: ND84MD@aol.comThu Nov 30 10:02:04 2006
the data is out there to support either approach. the midwest group--michigan, loyola, mayo-- are anti mesh except for brubaker's sacrocolpopexy. they still have significant doubts about TOT vs burch vs TVT. northeast/southeast--- hopkins, emory,-- tend to be more open to augmented repairs. i realize this is a vast oversimplification, but there are two discrete camps. one point many will agree on is that there is definite potential for complications in the posterior compartment with polypropylene mesh; but if biologics, porcine, bovine, are "remolded" do they really offer any suport. favorite new complication-- "hisparunia" pain in male partner related to mesh. i think brubaker came up with that one.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
